Tokyo, June 10, 2024, Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) is pleased to announce the launch of a world class compact photo printer capable of supporting 8-inch double-sided photo prints. 

Referred to as the DP-DS820DX¹, the new printer is approximately 40% smaller than the previous model, the DP-DS80DX, and will go on sale first in the United States in June 2024 to be followed by other countries and regions.

The DP-DS820DX is the latest addition to the lineup of DNP dye-sublimation photo printers that enhance its versatility for a wide range of prints. 

The new printer will be exhibited at booth No. 41, the DNP booth at PHOTONEXT2024², a photography-related exhibition to be held at PACIFICO Yokohama on June 11th and 12th, 2024.

Development Background

The global market for photo-related products of various sizes, such as photo books and greeting cards, is expected to grow at an average of approximately 6% per annum. Currently available 8-inch double-sided photo printers have been faced with the challenge of requiring an external reversing mechanism to flip the printing paper, resulting in larger devices and slower printing speeds. To overcome these challenges, DNP has developed the DP-DS820DX, a new double-sided photo printer that is both smaller and improves printing speed.

DP-DS820DX Features

• Compact size: The device has been made smaller by incorporating a reversing mechanism for printing on both sides of the paper. The DP-DS820DX is a compact double-sided photo printer that measures 322 mm wide x 460 mm deep x 272 mm high and weighs approximately 22 kg, making it one of the lightest in the world. The volume has been reduced by approximately 40% and the weight by about 25% compared to the DP-DS80DX. The smaller dimensions also make it easy to install at photo-related store outlets.
• Improved print speed: By improving the mechanism that flips the paper for double-sided printing, and shortening the distance the paper travels, we have achieved an approximately 30% increase in print speed compared to previous models.
• Supports a wide range of print sizes: The adoption of vertical and horizontal cutters allows the user to adjust paper size in the printer before printing. As a result, this single printer answers diversified needs, such as photobooks, calendars, and greeting cards of various sizes that use high-quality double-sided photos.
• Function to add crease lines: The new printer is equipped with a mechanism to add crease lines to printed photos, meaning greeting cards will be easier to fold, and photobooks will lie flatter for easier opening.
